Why is Halloween on 31 October?

Is Halloween a public holiday in Turkey?
No, Halloween is not a public holiday in Turkey. Public holidays are set by Law No. 2429 on National Holidays and General Holidays, and 31 October is not on that list. In 2026 the date falls on a Saturday, so for most people it is not a working day anyway.
In Turkey Halloween is marked through nightlife and events rather than as a family tradition. Which Istanbul districts celebrate it and where to find a costume are covered in the Istanbul Halloween 2026 guide.
Does the Istanbul metro run on Halloween night 2026?
Yes, on Saturday 31 October it does. On the nights linking Friday to Saturday and Saturday to Sunday, lines including M1A, M1B, M2, M4, M5, M6 and M7 keep running through the night at reduced frequency. Halloween 2026 falls on one of those nights.
Sunday 1 November is different: the weekend night service ends at midnight on Sunday. Anyone heading home after midnight that night needs a night bus or a taxi. Line-by-line times are in the Istanbul metro hours guide.
